  • The meaning of Colorado is "colored red," and it is also known as the "Centennial State."
  • Breckenridge is known as "Colorado's Kingdom." The city received its name when it was left off of the United States map in the 1800s; it was not correct until 1936. If visiting during the summer months, you can be part of the town's celebration of its past with the Kingdom Days celebration.
  • In 1984, Breckenridge became Colorado's first major resort to allow snowboarding.
  • The Gold Pan Saloon in Breckenridge is one of the oldest running pubs in the United States, dating back to 1859.
  • Winter Park is known as the Mountain Bike Capital of the United States, boasting over 600 miles of biking trails.
  • Although Frisco only has about 2,700 year-round residents, the ski season brings about 3 million people to the area annually.

Transportation

The closest major airport to our Colorado destinations is the Denver International Airport (DEN), which is the largest airport in the United States. If flying, you will want to rent a car since all of the area attractions are spread out and the airport itself is a drive from our destinations. Visiting during the winter months? A snowy day is very likely in Colorado, so try to get a vehicle that handles snow well.
